Message I just replaced my fan clutch today because it was just getting too hot for me to drive to work with long sleeves and black slacks with the windows open. My car's temp gauge never creeped up when the A/C was off, but as soon as I turned it on and the temp outside was above the magical number of 85*F, up went the temp gauge. This week, I had it. I made it to work, and it looked like I had been thrown into the pool! So I went to my local Auto parts store and picked up a new fan clutch (Carquest FTW). I get to looking at how to install it. I see how you would immediately assume you need to remove the radiator, but I took a little bit of a longer look (like 2 minutes) and devised a way to replace the unit in about 15 minutes.

Took it for a test drive, made sure everything sounded right, and actually it sounded quieter. I didn't even realize my engine compartment had been noisier because of the fan clutch because it tested good by tt.net's standard of fan clutch testing (Try to spin it and see if it makes 1 Rev.) Mine didn't make a full rev. maybe 1/2 a rev. The new one stops as soon as I let go. I'm on my test drive and the temp gauge had just gotten up to temp. I get on the gas a little bit and my temp drops a bit. I knew instantly I had found my issue and decided to drive around a bit with the temp set to 60*F. Not a single budge in the temp. I'm very happy to have A/C again. :)
